Westside Immersion It is often difficult for families to be accepted into the existing Chinese immersion programs and inconvenient to send our children to the east side schools. Therefore an effort is underway to implement a Chinese immersion program on the west side. |

The following programs provide Chinese language classes and/or cultural activities for children. Some of them may also offer full immersion schools and/or classes and programs for adults.

Many of the families involved are Taiwanese, so the school provides an excellent opportunity for cross-cultural interactions. Mandarin Chinese is our specialty. Our teachers are Chinese, and therefore native speakers of the language they teach. Classes are kept small to increase your learning experience. But they are also alive, and fun, with much interaction and individual attention given to each student. The school age program is for children ages 6-12. Our mission is to teach the community about Chinese language, culture, and heritage and enhance friendships within the Chinese-American community. Children as young as five years old can enroll and learn Chinese. We make it fun and entertaining, as well as educational. OHCS provides more than twenty different classes, including eight levels of Chinese language (using Pinyin and simplified characters), Chinese painting, calligraphy, art, singing, dancing, martial arts, youth chess, Chinese immersion, and adults' Chinese. First graders learn Chinese spelling (pinyin) system, poems, and daily used Chinese words and sentences. |
