Families with Children From China Oregon and SW Washington

Halloween Party

The 2nd Annual FCC Halloween Party will be held Saturday, October 11, 2008 from 2 to 5 pm at the Friendship Masonic Lodge in N.E. Portland. Click here for details.

In 2004, FCC Oregon/SW Washington included in its mission statement support for adoptive families and for charitable activities for children remaining in orphanages in China.

In 2005, the chapter established a Charitable Giving committee to reach out to the broader Chinese community, particularly children in China.

The 2005 board developed a relationship with the China Association of Social Workers through Madame Zhang Ziaoqing. Through Madame Zhang, the chapter funded lifesaving surgeries for two children in the countryside and later established an ongoing relationship between the chapter and the Chengde Social Welfare Institute in Hubei Province.

The Chengde SWI in Hubei Province (one of the poorest aread of China) is home to more than 40 children. For a majority, this will be the only home they know. Just 10 children have been adopted from Chengde SWI in the past five years. FCC has been able to fund the orphanage's first playground equipment, severl appliances, some necessary furniture (including dining tables - prior to FCC's donation the children at their meals standing), medicine cabinets, cribs, bedding, and medicine. We have also been able to sponsor the high-school tuition of two Chengde teens with a third teen sponsored by our community partner, Christ Church Parish.

The Charitable Giving Committee also supports the Portland Classical Chinese Garden.

100% of all donations directly support the programs. Administrative services and fees are covered by membership dues and volunteers.

QUICK LINKS:

"I will ask our children to forever remember your noble characters and will plant the seed of love in their hearts. Your noble actions will also motivate me to serve the children wholeheartedly. I believe that together we build a Great Wall of Love and construct a loving environment in which these children without parents can grow up healthy."

Ma Fuzhen,
Director Chendge City SWI

Other Opportunties to Reach Out

Half The Sky Foundation works with Children's Welfare Institutions in China to develop and fund early childhood education and infant nurture programs. FCC-Oregon/SW Washington supports their efforts.  Please consider making your own generous donation.

Foundation for Chinese Orphanages (FCO) developed from a collective sense of gratitude for the children who have come into - and transformed - our lives.  Each year the FCO sponsors projects to support children still living in Chinese orphanages. Our chapter also supports this program through the FCC National Appeal.
