EMKPress has put together a useful list of guides on attachment, homeland tours, orphanage visits, an Emergency Toolkit for what happens when you adopt and it isn't what you expected, lifebooks, racism, and more. Northwest Adoptive Families Association is a non-profit, all volunteer support group for adoptive families and those interested in adoption. NAFA is actively involved in education, advocacy and support for its member families located throughout Oregon and Southwest Washington. NAFA sponsors a baby & toddler care class, a monthly waiting families event, a bi-annual conference and other eucational seminars, a library available through the Lake Oswego Library, an annual campout and several other social events. Adoption Parenting - Tweens is a Yahoo! Group for adoptive parents with children 8-12. It is a helpful spot to file resources, book and DVD lists, articles and links--all pertaining to the tween years. This new list is designed for parents of tweenies, however ALL adoptive parents are welcome to listen, learn and contribute. Adoption-Parenting Tweens is open to addressing issues that pertain particularly to adopted children aged eight through twelve: change and transition (Middle School!), racial identity, anxiety, sensory issues,making friends, and risky behaviors--and may include practical adoption-parenting advice, shared resources and honest discussion. ITAT · International Teen Adoptees Talk - This Yahoo! group is only open to internationally adopted teen adoptees to provide them a private place where they can talk with others and with the moderators about issues surrounding adoption, growing up in a transracial family, birthparent loss, racism, and any other issues that international adoptees deal with on a daily basis. The moderators are also international adoptees, and while we will participate/guide some of the discussions, this group is primarily a support group--you are there for each other and for yourselves. |
