Local Area Support

If you have begun "the process" of adopting a child from China, the wait can be difficult. Consider joining the FCC Waiting Families Support Group.  There is no charge to attend the Waiting Family and First Years Home meetings and there is no need to RSVP.

Meetings are open to all FCC families, those waiting and those who are recently home. We cover both pre-adoption topics such as:

• Packing lists & suggestions
• Medical Concerns For your Adopted Child
• Becoming a Multiracial Family
• Chinese Culture and Traditions
• Returning Home With Your Child (Legal and Social issues)

As well as:

• homeland tours
• attaching
• the first few years
• sleeping issues
• waiting children at home
• being a trans-racial family
• how to set up a blog
• lifebooks
• photography tips and
• memory keeping storage

Our family panels (held a occasionally during the year) will include families at different stages of the adoption journey. Such as 1 year, 2-3 years, 5 years, and 10 years home. We will invite families to speak to us about where they are in the journey. What they have learned, and what they hope to pass on to others.  We will hear about the schools they chose (immersion, private, public), birth mom conversations, how and if they chose to implement their child's culture and so on.

Online Support

We encourage all our local waiting families to subscribe to our  Waiting Families Yahoo Support Group where we encourage you to post your questions regarding your upcoming adoption with China to fellow waiting families in a safe and warm environment.  We also encourage those of you who have recently returned from your adoption trip to stay connected through this Yahoo group as we often ask those of you who have BTNT (been there done that) about your personal experiences and advice.  All of our meeting notices and other waiting family group postings are sent out via this e-mail list.  So stay connected and be informed and join this group created just for you.
