What a Moon Festival! (And save the date: Feb. 24, 2019 – Chinese New Year)

Thank you to all the volunteers and families who made the 2018 Mid-Autumn Festival so fun!  This year we gathered at Cook Park and we could not have asked for better weather.  What an amazing moon!  It was great to see so many families gathered (about 70 people this year).  Special thanks to our teen volunteers who read aloud the story of Hou Yi and Chang E.  Big thanks, also, to our organizers, Sharyn Marcuson, Sharon Manuel, Becca Barlow, Suzanne Creitz, Beth Schaller and Robyn Brewer.

Our focus this past year has been on hosting FCC events that are community-focused, affordable, and culturally enriching.  Based on the overwhelming popularity of our Chinese New Year event last year, we are planning to host this year’s celebration at the Milwaukie Center again, where we can keep costs low for families and enjoy our favorite Chinese New Year traditions.

SAVE THE DATE:  Sunday, Feb. 24, 2019 – Celebrate the Year of the Pig!
You are invited to help make Chinese New Year a great event.  There are lots of simple ways to get involved by sharing just 1-2 hours of your time:  help with set-up, help with the raffle ticket sales table at the event, donate a raffle basket, help with clean-up, or help with planning and ideas.  We have six dedicated volunteers already planning the event and we invite you to join this fun group!

We are also working on a dumpling-making workshop for the winter or spring.  If you have an idea for an FCC gathering, please join us at our next board meeting in October.  FCC is an entirely volunteer-driven organization and we are only as strong as our members.  Come and share your ideas and your time.

May all your Moon Festival wishes come true!
